Carl Albert State College

Athletics

CASC competes in NJCAA Region II and fields intercollegiate athletic teams in Division II baseball (men), Division I softball (women), and became the first community college in Oklahoma to add Division I Cross Country (men, women) in fall 2017. In the spring 2019 CASC became a member of the National Association of Collegiate eSports and will become the first community college in Oklahoma to field team(s). The College also provides five athletic housing units.

Student Life

The College boasts 20 student clubs and organizations (C&O), including the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and new Blue & White Club, that foster a vital campus life in both Poteau and Sallisaw campus locations. An online calendar of events provides students information on C&O meeting/events, student activities (Connection Carnival, Intramurals, Spring Fling), residential activities (Movies, Bowling, Skating), athletic events, and important academic dates. In addition, the new Viking Card is processed in Student Affairs and directly linked with the direct deposit college refund disbursements for students.

Poteau Campus Facilities including Residential Life

The landscaped Poteau Campus is located in a scenic valley of the Kiamichi Mountains between Cavanal Hill and Sugarloaf Mountain. It features modern, attractive state of the art academic facilities, such as the newer Ollie Center for Academic Excellence and Deana J. Reed Science and Math Center. The Joe E. White Library houses a collection of more than 17,000 volumes, including print, electronic books and audio-visual materials and also the home to the Carl Albert Museum. The college provides eight well lit student residence halls for the Scholars Program and the general student body; a coordinator and eight RA’s reside on campus to offer daily services and evening activities; and campus police, with new camera surveillance, are located directly across the street for safety and security. Recreational facilities include an outback area including the Lafevers Cross Country trail, Frisbee golf, intramural field, picnic area, lighted outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts, and the athletic baseball and softball fields. Mick Thompson Fieldhouse includes the gym, concessions, hospitality room, lockers, cardio, weights, and events foyer. The new armory outdoor project completed in the fall 2018 includes a lighted outdoor basketball, sand volleyball and handball courts, hammock park, and picnic area. The indoor armory project should be completed by January 2020. CASC’s Costner-Balentine Student Center contains Café 1507, the College Book Store, Hygge Hall Game Lounge, Viking Room for C&O meetings, Ballroom, and the Reed Room for more formal gatherings.
