NACE Announces Rocket League Open Competition

 

KANSAS CITY, MO, 12 December, 2019 – The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE), has announced open competition in Rocket League for NACE institutions, the association’s first non-championship competition combining institutions across the United States and Canada.

 

“After a successful fall championship for Rocket League, we are excited to offer a second, informal season this spring as requested by many NACE member institutions. This season will allow us to test a new format for future competitions, and continue perfecting a model that best meets the needs of varsity programs,” said Michael Jones, Chair of the NACE Competition Council and coach at Drury University.

 

Rocket League competition will be hosted by Toornament with competition running from February 20th till April 20th, 2020.  Members can register their teams on the Toornament platform here.  The Competition Council will assign registered teams into regions with this competition serving to pilot regionalized competition for future NACE seasons.

About the National Association of Collegiate Esports

The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) is a nonprofit membership association organized by and on behalf of member institutions with varsity esports programs and is the only governing body across college esports in North America. NACE develops the structure and tools needed to advance collegiate esports in the varsity space. NACE collaborates with stakeholders to lay the groundwork in areas such as: Eligibility, Path to Graduation, and Competition & Scholarships. NACE currently has 203 varsity esports programs as members, accounting for nearly all (90%) varsity programs across North America.

 

Currently NACE requires all active member institutions to be fully accredited by an authorized higher educational accrediting agencies relative to their region and/or national affiliations.  Secondly NACE requires all members to have varsity programs on campus.  A varsity program is any that recruits students specifically to play esports, provides scholarships, provides a dedicated esports arena/practice area, provides equipment necessary to facilitate competition, and provides faculty/staff to facilitate and administer their esports program.
